Pupils take up the maths challenge

RS primary mathsA MATHS competition added up for primary school children who made new friends and also experienced a taste of life at the big school.

Richmond School and Sixth Form College hosted the 24 Challenge attracting Year 5 and 6 pupils from nine schools as far away as Arkengarthdale, the Cowtons and Bolton-on-Swale.

Teams battled each other and the clock in a maths challenge in which they were given four numbers which they had to add, subtract, multiply and divide to make a total of 24.

The competition was won by Richmond Methodist School, with Middleton Tyas in second and Bolton-on-Swale third. Richmond School Year 9 students helped judge the contest.

Richmond School maths teacher Rebecca Collier said: “Run annually, the competition is designed to enthuse the children in maths and also give them a taste of life at secondary school.

“They are very competitive and have a great time. It is fantastic that so many make the effort and go back and tell their friends what a good time they had at Richmond School.”
