The independent jewellers, based on Redcar High Street since 2000, is run by Des Heaviside, one of the north east’s most experienced gemmologists.

As well as stocking a range of conventional engagement and wedding rings, Hallmark works with buyers across the UK to source unique stones and create custom settings to ensure engagement rings can be made every bit as special as the three-diamond cluster that Prince Harry presented to fiancée, Meghan Markle.

The princess-to-be’s ring features her favourite yellow gold and a diamond from Botswana, a special location for the royal couple, as well as two stones from Harry’s late mother, The Princess of Wales, private collection.

Speaking about the bespoke ring service, Des said: “A proposal is always a special time so, to be able to pop the big question, with a ring that is 100% unique makes the occasion even more momentous.

“Each custom ring can be made one of three ways; either a composite design from different components, a CADCAM design which will provide an exact match, as tailored on the computer screen, or a piece made exclusively by hand in collaboration with a master jeweller. Any of the options will provide a ring that is beautiful and incorporates elements truly special to that couple.

“From the initial design to the finished piece, we work with a range of customers, from those that know their exact requirements, to people that know they want something special but haven’t got the first idea where to start.”

As well as bespoke rings, Hallmark the Jewellers can create a range of custom jewellery, featuring semi-precious stones, adapt vintage family heirlooms into modern creations or restore pieces back to their former glory.
