Redcar Racecourse Backs Boro to Wembley Glory

Screen Shot 2015-05-21 at 12.07.33Sports fans torn between watching Middlesbrough Football Club at Wembley or one of the region’s horseracing highlights this bank holiday Monday, 25th May, have been offered the chance to do both.

On Monday Redcar Racecourse hosts the Zetland Gold Cup, a Heritage Handicap that has been going since WWII and which attracts high profile trainers and owners from far and wide – including HRH The Queen, whose horse won in 2009.

On the same day, however, the Middlesbrough FC face one of their most pivotal games in decades, with a make-or-break shot at Premier League promotion in the SkyBet Championship Play-Off Final Vs Norwich City FC.

Fortunately as a big Boro supporter, Redcar Racecourse has stepped in to ensure punters don’t miss either spectacle on what promises to be a scintillating day of sport.

The venue has secured a deal with broadcaster Sky to show the game on TV screens throughout the ground in the Grandstand Enclosure Football Food Court, Paddock Suites and Course Enclosure Bar.

Raceday organisers are also offering a special £10 admission price to any 2014/15 Middlesbrough Football Club season ticket holders who come racing wearing their Boro shirts.  Just remember to bring your season ticket with you as proof that you’re a Boro fan.

Meanwhile, the first race of the day has been named ‘The Up The Boro at Wembley Maiden Auction Stakes’ to get racegoers in the mood for the big match. Fans can also have a flutter on the game at the Betfred betting shop in the Grandstand Enclosure.

Amy Fair, general manager of Redcar Racecourse, said: “We’re massive Boro supporters at Redcar and have pulled out all the stops to make sure fellow fans who join us on Monday have a fantastic day – hopefully with the right result!”

The race day is sponsored by Market Cross Jewellers and has plenty on offer for families including Page2stage entertainment from characters Dorothy, The Scarecrow, Lion, Glinda and Tinman.

There are also numerous options from the Dine & View package in the Crow’s Nest Restaurant, to racegoers’ packages including admission, a racecard and food and drink.

Parties of 10 or more can also save over 20% when they book their Grandstand or Course Enclosure admission tickets in advance.

Tickets can be bought over the phone on 01642 484068 during office hours or by visiting www.redcarracing.co.uk. Grandstand admission tickets are £15 and Course Enclosure admission tickets are £5 each, which can also be purchased on the day.

Zetland Gold Cup Day is the first day of the two day meeting, with racing again on Tuesday 26 May.  There are currently seven races on the card with the first race at 2.20pm and the last at 5.20pm (times subject to change at declaration stage). Gates will open to the public at 12 noon.

The remainder of the season for 2015 is packed with other feature racedays such as Ladies’ Day, Help For Heroes Family Fun Day, Caribbean Carnival Day and Ladies’ & Gents’ Evening. The last feature meeting of the season is the famous Two Year Old Trophy on Saturday 3rd October.
