Slimmers Share their Food

CaptureA slimming group handed over a big bag of treats to a community partnership which provides emergency food parcels for people who would otherwise have to go hungry.

The group of slimmers from Stokesley gave up all their ‘festive indulgences’ – the things you get for Christmas but shouldn’t eat whilst watching your weight!

“We wanted to do something positive after Christmas and as part of our healthy heating plan we decided to forego our treats,” said Slimming World member and Hambleton District Councillor, Councillor Mrs Bridget Fortune.

“As the council heavily supports the Hambleton FoodShare scheme, we decided to show our support and share our treats with them.”

Northallerton Explorer Scouts who help the Hambleton FoodShare each week by sorting and placing all the food donated in date order, handed over some of the sweets and biscuits as additional items for the food parcels but also raffled some of the gifts, giving the much needed cash (£107), back to the FoodShare.

Hambleton FoodShare is a registered charity run almost entirely by local volunteers and relies heavily on fund raising to help them provide three-day emergency food parcel to people in temporary financial crisis who cannot afford to feed themselves or their families due to no fault of their own.
