WINE-LOVERS can raise a glass in the name of charity this spring as a Sunderland hotel plays host to a Red and White Wine Challenge.

The NSPCC’s Sunderland Business Board will host the fun evening event on 18 May, giving guests the chance to pick up expert tips and advice before trying to identify a number of wines in a blind taste test.

Held at the Roker Hotel and sponsored by Tavistock Hospitality and LWC Wines, the night will feature a drinks reception, three course dinner and entertainment, along with prizes for the highest scorers.

The NSPCC’s Business Board regularly raises money to support projects across the area, including the NSPCC’s  Speak Out Stay Safe programme, which teaches children how to keep themselves safe from abuse and neglect.

Chair of the NSPCC Sunderland Business Board, Umesh Patel, hopes to attract a big crowd on the night, in the hopes of raising as much cash as possible for young people who need it.

“We are always working hard to help improve the  lives of young people in and around Sunderland, and we rely on events like this to help raise much-needed funds,” he said.

“All of the money raised at the Red and White Wine Challenge will be used here in the city and will have a huge impact on the lives of vulnerable youngsters living here.

“We know it is going to be a fantastic night for everyone attending, and the main thing is to raise as much money as possible. I really hope to see lots of people there having fun but helping a very worthy cause at the same time.”

Tickets for the Red and White Wine Challenge cost £50 each or £500 for a table of 10. For further details call 0191 265 6111 or emailinfo@sortedpr.com
