The Darlington Orchestra Winter Concert 2016 is on Saturday 23 January
This accessible and informal event takes place at Central Hall, The Dolphin Centre DL1 5RP, at7.30pm.
As usual, the programme will be packed with an eclectic selection of great music – this time featuring:
- Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March No.1 ‘Land of Hope and Glory’
- Soirées Musicales by Britten
- Mendelssohn’s ‘Introduction and Fugue’
- Pieces by Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev and Brahms
- Medleys from popular musicals by Lerner & Lowe and Lloyd Webber
Conductor David Plews says: “At our Winter Concert, Darlington Orchestra will present wonderful music in an informal atmosphere. There will be the delightful sounds of Britten’s Soirées Musicales, based on themes by Rossini, and the evocative tones of Elgar’s world-famous Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1.
“With the lush musical scores of Lerner & Loewe and a collaboration with Darlington’s very own SING choir, we promise you an accessible evening of orchestral and choir music for the whole family.”
In addition to printed programme notes provided for the audience, there will be a children’s info pack (suitable for 5- to 11-year-olds). This helps to introduce the youngest audience members to the enjoyment of hearing live music.
