There’s a Trend of Video Game Adaptations of TV Shows – Here are the Best Examples

Video game adaptations of films are everywhere nowadays, and it’s fair to say that whilst some are decent, others belong in the bargain bin and don’t deserve to ever see the light of day again.

However, it isn’t just film studios looking to cash in on the popularity of their products and brands. Over the years, television studios have also been churning out video games which are based on often long-running, always popular TV shows. Again, this experiment has produced a real mixed bag but since we’re all about positivity, we’re going to give you a quick rundown on some of the most entertaining efforts that we’ve come across.

Game of Thrones

During the running of the series, there have been a number of games based on the popular fantasy epic show. However, the only version you need to concern yourself with is the one from Telltale Games. As explained over at https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-11-19-telltales-game-of-thrones-season-one-review, the game is actually extremely playable in its own right and even those who don’t keep up with the goings on in Westeros will have a lot of fun. Thankfully, the game also includes the voices of the actual cast members of the show, which is where a lot of TV show game adaptations really fall down. Can you imagine someone like Johnny Vegas voicing Jon Snow? Us neither.

Deal or No Deal

Again, there have been a few adaptations of this classic British television game show but none that we’ve seen come close to the online slot version which can be found at https://games.paddypower.com/. The game closely based on the premise of the original show in that the player has to clear rows of numbered red boxes in order to find out what you’re left with. Of course, the fact that this is a slot game adds a different element to proceedings and the user has to create full lines in order to have any chance of winning the jackpot. The game was developed with the mobile user in mind and so it’s also possible to play the Deal or No Deal slot on the go without losing out.

The Simpsons Arcade Game

Arcade games have got lost in the ether over the years thanks to the abundance of next-generation consoles out there. However, there’s something still alluring about the whole idea of going to the arcade, putting your hard earned cash into the slot and just moving a joystick around. Released in 1991, The Simpsons Arcade remains one of the best adaptations of the hit TV show and for its time, Springfield is portrayed in impressive detail. In terms of the plot, Maggie has been kidnapped and it’s your task to choose one of four characters to try and rescue her. Our bet is that Moe probably took her.

A Good Show Doesn’t Always Make a Good Game

If you’re wondering whether a game adaptation of a TV show is worth your time, there are a plethora of review sites out there waiting in the wings for you. Just remember that a good program doesn’t always translate into a good game. It’s always best to check a game before potentially tainting your fond childhood memories forever.

We’re serious too – there are some shockers out there, as explained at https://www.ranker.com/list/the-worst-video-games-based-on-tv-shows/matt-grippi. Remember to game safe.
