A FAMILY fun day to celebrate the Tour de Yorkshire coming to Middlesbrough is set to take place in Central Library this Saturday (April 23).
A range of cycling themed activities, suitable for all age groups, is happening from 10am-3pm.
Among the highlights will be ‘That Poetry Bloke’ Craig Bradley, who at 10.30am and 1pm will be asking for help from the public in creating a Tour de Yorkshire poem.
The town’s resident ‘Bike Doctor’ – a fully qualified cycle mechanic – will be on hand all day to give cycles a health check to make sure they are in a safe and working order.
Free cycle security marking will also be on offer all day and sessions teaching people how to fix a puncture will take place at 10am and noon.
The importance of wearing a helmet will also be looked at with visitors invited to design their own safety helmet through interactive ‘Good Egg’ workshops which allow those taking part to test their designs using a real egg.
There will also be the opportunity to get crafty by creating cycling-themed bunting to decorate the library for race day, which starts in Centre Square on Sunday, May 1.
Also on the bike theme there will be experts on keeping fit using journey planners and other technological applications.
Visitors are also asked to turn up on their bikes to be entered into a prize draw and prizes can also be won by those taking part in the design and treasure hunt competitions. All events are free.
