Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Image 2British 1980’s pop group, The Blow Monkeys, blew crowds away in South Tyneside when they played on South Shields sea front on Saturday night (25 June).

The legendary band The Blow Monkeys played their classic hits Digging Your Scene and It Doesn’t Have To Be This Way for music fans at the final night of adiverse programme of free live music at the Borough’s open-air Amphitheatre at Sandhaven.

The group, fronted by the iconic Dr Robert (Robert Howard), was joined by well-respected North East singer-songwriter Steve Daggett.

The Amphitheatre live music programme, organised by South Tyneside Council in partnership with Minchella & Co, has been running throughout June on Thursday and Saturday evenings as part of this year’s South Tyneside Summer Festival.

Councillor Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council with responsibility for Culture and Leisure, said: “The Amphitheatre live music programme has once again proven to be a popular showcase of North East talent which music lovers across the region have enjoyed.

“The Blow Monkeys went down a storm with crowds at the weekend and helped to end the month of free music on South Shields seafront on a high.”

Music fans can now look to forward the renowned free Sunday Concerts at Bents Park in July with performances from X-Factor stars Alexandra Burke, Ben Haenow and Reggie ‘N’ Bollie, The Proclaimers plus Lindisfarne, Tony Hadley and UB40.

Additional musical highlights include, brass bands from across the North East at the Amphitheatre every Sunday afternoon in June, July and August.

There will also be live music in South Marine Park every Saturday afternoon from Saturday 16 July until Saturday 3 September, and performances by members of South Tyneside’s Wind Bands on Saturday 9 July from 10am until 12noon, thanks to The Friends of North and South Marine Park.

The South Tyneside Festival also features the Borough’s nautical themed parade through the streets of South Shields on Saturday 2 July, the Harton Quays Park Summer Craft Markets on the first Sunday of the month from June to September and the Kids Fun-Fest at Sandhaven Amphitheatre on Tuesday andThursday afternoons from 2 to 25 August.
