The Dolphin Centre recently took part in Technogym’s ‘Let’s Move for a better world’ challenge, in a bid to encourage people in clubs worldwide to ‘donate’ physical activity towards a good cause: getting local communities more active and promoting wellness education in local schools.
As part of the challenge, The Dolphin Centre encouraged gym members to participate by working out in the gym – the more steps taken the more points were won. The Dolphin Centre’s gym members worked together to generate over 2 million moves, which has resulted in the gym being crowned the 2nd most active club in the UK.
Avid gym users Francis Betiku and Brenda Smith, who are both 71 took part in the challenge and between them managed to bank over 250,000 moves!
Francis, pictured 71 said “The Let’s Move for a better world challenge was great fun. The Dolphin Centre staff were fabulous, enthusing us and even putting on a disco on the last night to give everybody the opportunity to get some more moves in. Brenda and I worked out for 3 and half hours every day for 3 weeks to make 250,000 moves. On the final day of the competition the Dolphin Centre was looking like finishing fourth place in the challenge, however after the disco, we ended up finishing the competition in 2nd place.”
In additional, as part of the challenge, all schools in Darlington were given the opportunity to win a selection of Technogym equipment. Lots of schools applied and the lucky winners drawn were Darlington School of Mathematics & Science (DSMS) who are now the proud owners of a Technogym Arke Functional Kit.
Mike Hillary (PE Teacher) from Darlington School of Mathematics & Science said: “We are delighted to be receiving the free Technogym equipment as a result of the Dolphin Centre Gym’s success in their recent move for a better world challenge. We intend to use the equipment across all year groups at DSMS which should not only enhance the pupils experience in physical education but also enhance the staff delivery at the school. We would really like to thank Technogym and The Dolphin Centre for making this opportunity possible.”
