A County Durham-based charity is holding a Big Curry fundraising event to raise much needed funds for soldiers and veterans in need.

Every year, thousands of individuals, groups and businesses across the UK raise much needed funds for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity by hosting a Big Curry event. Organisers from Finchale decided to host their own Big Curry event for a cause that is close to their hearts.

Organisers from Finchale are hoping to welcome more than 100 people through its doors for the Big Curry event at the charity’s Pity Me offices on Friday 18th November at 12.30pm. All proceeds will go to ABF The Soldiers’ Charity – the national charity of the British Army which provides support to soldiers, veterans and their families.

Now Finchale, an independent charity which works closely with veteran and ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, is appealing for businesses to come along to the Big Curry or make a donation towards the fundraising total.

Organisers are hoping to raise hundreds of pounds from the Big Curry event, and all the proceeds which will go directly to supporting soldiers, veterans and their families who are in need of assistance. Last year, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity gave grants to nearly 5000 individuals and 88 other specialist charities which support the wider Army family.

Finchale, an independent charity founded 73 years ago as a rehabilitation and resettlement centre for service personnel returning from active service, has retained strong links with the Armed Forces ever since. It works with ABF The Soldiers’ Charity to provide tailored support to veterans from the North East of England to enable them to move from social exclusion to sustained employment.

Mel Pears MBE, former soldier and Finchale CEO, said: “We’re appealing for individuals and businesses to dig deep for our Big Curry fundraising event. We hoping to raise as much money as we possibly can for this important charity and we’re looking forward to seeing lots of people coming along on the day. It’s surely going to be a busy and tasty lunchtime treat which has the added benefit of helping soldiers, veterans and their families.”
