Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Food goes digital in the North East

A digital food safety systems expert has been confirmed as the key speaker for the next meeting of the North of England’s food sector networking round-table Foodies Unite.

Organisations working in the sector, either as a manufacturer or supplier, are invited to the next meeting of Foodies Unite when the group reconvenes in on January 24th for its third bi-monthly meeting where the important topics of blockchain and digital ledgers will be discussed.

This meeting will be hosted by Jacksons Law Firm in Stockton-on-Tees, who work directly with a number of large food sector clients throughout the North.

Foodies Unite aims to bring together food organisations large and small from across the North of England. The event will be facilitated by food-specialist training company totrain, a training company based in Teesside which works extensively with the food sector, including industry regulator BRC.

In association with NEPIC, Foodies Unite held its inaugural meeting in July last year which brought together senior representatives from the food industry across the North.

James Flynn, CTO and Founder of Primority Ltd will present to the Foodie Unite members and share current knowledge and best practice on blockchain and digital ledgers, looking at the difference between the two and their potential impact on allergen management.

James, who specialises in food safety management systems, will explain what blockchain is and how it is being used in the food sector. He will also offer live demonstrations of a digital ledger concept for consumer allergen information.

He will also discuss why the food industry should be talking about digital ledgers rather than blockchain.

Helen Hood, Secretariat at Foodies Unite, said: “We’re delighted to announce that James will be our speaker at the next meeting of Foodies Unite.

“He has over 25 years’ experience helping food businesses solve key food safety management problems and his presentation on blockchain and digital ledgers will be extremely informative for businesses in the sector.

“Foodies Unite continues to go from strength to strength and we’ve been pleased to add additional members at each of our meetings. At our meetings organisations have the chance to discuss and learn more about the topics most relevant to our sector today, share best practice and come together with people from around the industry, with different perspectives and different experiences.”

The event is being held on Thursday January 24th 2019 between 9.30am and 12pm and will be hosted by Jacksons Law Firm, 17 Falcon Court, Stockton-on-Tees, TS18 3TU.

There will be a chance to network with food sector colleagues over lunch. To register to attend visit the Eventbrite website and search for ‘Foodies Unite’.
