Local charity, Scarborough and Local Together (SALT), has received a £500 donation from award-winning retirement housebuilders, McCarthy and Stone, who are currently building on Newby Farm Road in Scarborough.

The money is to help the charity’s ongoing work in the Scarborough area, helping local community groups or those in need by reasons of age, ill health, disability, or financial hardship. The charity has a shop located on Falsgrave Road which is run solely by volunteers, and which sells items such as clothes, shoes and toys to raise vital funds.

Construction at McCarthy and Stone’s planned Retirement Living development, Alder View Court, is now well underway. The donation follows a community appeal McCarthy and Stone made at the end of last year, which asked local charities and groups to apply for funding, as part of its ongoing commitment to the area.

Scarborough and Locals Together plan to put the money towards renovating a building owned by the Scouts Association which is used as a real community hub by a number of different clubs and organisations within Scarborough.

Rosemary Forrest, trustee of SALT, commented: “We are so grateful to McCarthy and Stone for their gesture of support. Donations of this kind are extremely important to us.  We are completely self-funded, so without the generosity of donors, our wonderful customers in the shop and other supporters we would not be able to carry out the important work we do to benefit those in the community who really need our help.

“One of our current projects is helping to renovate the building that the 2nd Earl of Londesborough’s Own (ELO) Scout Group use weekly. The building, owned by the Scout Association, is also used by other community groups and this contribution will help us to add a much needed disabled toilet block to the building.”

Liz Green, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy and Stone, added: “As a company, we appreciate that our responsibility is not only to build quality, purpose-built retirement properties, but also to create a positive legacy in the communities in which we build. Scarborough and Locals Together do such a superb job in the area and we are delighted to be able to donate to such a worthy cause.”

The new development of age-exclusive apartments on Newby Farm Road is an ideal option for those looking to retire near the coast yet also wanting to enjoy the benefits of village life. Designed exclusively for the over 60s, the development will offer a collection of 42 one and two bedroom stylish apartments.

Homeowners will find all the standard features of a McCarthy and Stone Retirement Living development, including a stunning home owner’s lounge, ideal for enjoying a cup of tea with friends and neighbours, beautifully landscaped gardens fully maintained by McCarthy and Stone, and a guest suite for friends and family who come to stay. For added peace of mind, a House Manager will be available during office hours to ensure the smooth-running of the development, and there will be a 24 hour emergency call system should assistance be needed day or night.

Anyone interested in finding out more about the development, or the opportunity to view apartment specifications, floor plans and pricing, are invited to head down to the sales launch event on Thursday 9th March at the Ox Pasture Hall Hotel, Scarborough, where there will be presentations at 11am and 2pm.
