Ingleby Barwick Drivers Reminded to Allow Extra Time for Journeys

logo-landscapeRESIDENTS and commuters travelling in and around Ingleby Barwick are being reminded to allow extra time for journeys throughout the coming weeks.

Next week Stockton will host the British Cycling National Road Championships which will see the country’s best road racers participate in both time trial and road race courses so some road closures are needed to allow the large scale event to take place safely.

Meanwhile, major works are taking place to improve the roads in and around the town.

They include:

  • Now until Friday 17 June– the temporary closure of Ingleby Way between Middle Road and Barwick Way between 9.30am and 2.45pm to allow surfacing of roundabout as part of a project to reduce peak period congestion in the centre of Ingleby Barwick which will see Myton Way dualled.
  • On-going lane restrictions on the approaches to the roundabouts at Broom Hill Avenue and Myton Road as part of the Myton Way dualling project.  The westbound approach to the Myton Road roundabout will be returned to two lanes during peak times.
  • Monday 27 June until Saturday 2 July – the closure of Low Lane between 7pm and 6am to allow surfacing of the new roundabout serving Ingleby Manor School.

The British Cycling National Road Championships time trials will take place on Thursday 23 June 2016 and part of the route is along Queen Elizabeth Way so the following road closures will be in place in and around Ingleby Barwick:

  • The full length of Queen Elizabeth Way between 9.30am and 9pm
  • The Queen Elizabeth Way-Myton Way roundabout between 9.30am and 9pm
  • The Rings from its junction with Queen Elizabeth Way to its junction with Apsley Way between 9.30am and 9pm
  • Lowfields Avenue for approximately 130 metres from its junction with Queen Elizabeth Way from 6am until 9pm
  • Myton Way from its junction with The Rings to its junction with Broom Hill Avenue between 9.30am and 9pm.

However, drivers will still be able to enter and leave The Rings southbound via Broom Hill Avenue roundabout all day.

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, Councillor Nigel Cooke, said: “Road closures and lane restrictions are essential to allow the road improvements to reduce congestion in Ingleby Barwick progress.

“At the same time Stockton Borough has the privilege of hosting an international standard sporting event which will see the eyes of the world focus on Stockton and it is really important that these road closures are in place to keep both riders and spectators safe.

“We appreciate there will be a lot going on in and around Ingleby Barwick and that the road closures will add pressure to neighbouring routes.  We know this may be frustrating for drivers so we will do all we can to ensure the disruption is minimised and urge commuters, residents and visitors to plan their journeys in advance, consider alternative routes when possible and allow extra time to reach their destinations.”
