Metro teams up with local attractions to give families extra over half term

Tyne and Wear Metro has teamed up with North East attractions to offer great family fun days out for passengers during October half-term.

If you’re planning on exploring the best of Tyne and Wear this October, Metro has lined up special offers to save you money at a number of popular local attractions, including Sunderland Wall, Tynemouth Priory and the Life Science Centre. You may even spot a few Snowdogs along the way.

To make the most of these half term holiday savings and offers, all you have to do is mention the Tyne and Wear Metro discount when booking and show a Metro ticket or Pop card, valid for travel on the same day, when you arrive at each of the attractions.

You can also get unlimited travel on Metro with your Metro DaySaver ticket, or travel with one of the limited edition Great North Snowdog Pop Pay As You Go card, or limited edition Snowdog family wristbands. Family Fun:

1. Sunderland Wall

Closest Metro Station: Pallion

Learn the ropes on a climbing course at Sunderland Wall for just £25 with Metro, when you show a valid Metro ticket or Pop card. The course consists of four, 1 hour sessions on Monday nights, which concentrate on basic rope work and climbing skills.

All climbing equipment is provided so all you will need is something comfortable to wear. On successfully completing the course, you can then use the wall unsupervised subject to the wall conditions.

Sessions run from 6.45pm to 7.45pm or from 8pm to 9pm on a Monday night.

3. Tynemouth Priory and Castle

Travelling to Tynemouth via Metro? Visit the Priory and Castle and you can get free entry for a child with a full paying adult when you show a valid Metro ticket or Pop card.

Step into Tynemouth’s story and discover more about its role as a monastery, civil war fortress and world war military lookout and defence post. Visit the serene chapel in the priory, tour the underground world war gun battery and patrol the castle walls with dramatic views of the coastline and River Tyne.
