A NEW long-stay car park behind Barclays Bank on Yarm High Street is now finished and open to the public.
Yarm Wharf car park is the latest in a series of investments in Yarm. Last year, Stockton Council completed £500,000 of works to enhance the popular High Street. Now, the Council is working towards improving long-stay parking in the busy town.
The new car park will provide 38 long-stay spaces and will complement the existing long-stay car parks at Castle Dyke Wynd and The Old Market as well as the short-stay spaces on the High Street.
Meanwhile, preparatory works are getting under way ahead of the construction of another new long stay car park which will create 34 spaces on the site behind the Blue Bell pub on the Egglescliffe side of Yarm Bridge.
Councillor Mike Smith, Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, said: “We have been working hard for a number of years to find parking solutions to meet the needs of people visiting, working and living in Yarm.
“As part of this work we have created 38 additional long-stay spaces at Yarm Wharf and have also started preparing the site behind the Blue Bell Pub.
“These new car parks will be an asset to the thriving town. Meanwhile, we are continuing to explore other solutions to bring additional long-stay car parking to Yarm.”
Councillor Peter Monck, Chairman of Yarm Town Council, said: “This car park is a welcome addition to the investment by Stockton Council into Yarm and will help to alleviate the parking issues in and around the Town Centre. The car park behind the Blue Bell will also be a welcome part of the continued investment into Yarm by Stockton Council.”
Parking in Yarm Wharf car park costs £1.50 per day. Season tickets are available, for more information visit Stockton Council’s website at www.stockton.gov.uk
The long-stay car park will complement the parking arrangements on Yarm High Street, where parking is free for the first 60 minutes then just £1 for the next two hours and £1 per hour after that, with no maximum stay. Charges apply from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday, but do not apply on Sundays or Bank Holidays.
