A Northumberland architecture firm has designs on growth after seeing a flagship luxury housing development come out of the ground and near completion.
The fast-developing Coach House site, off the main A695 Corbridge to Hexham road, has become a flagship project for Corbridge-based 33 Architecture.
Ollie Currie, director of 33 Architecture, said: “Having found the site at the start of 2017, nurtured through the planning process, designed four bespoke house types to suit the site and its constraints, and now being involved in interior design services for clients it’s more than a standard project.
“Coach House has become a really special development. It’s a very personal project as I was Hexham born and raised. I was keen for this to be a very bespoke housing development with a real contextual feel using local and modern materials like zinc. The developer, Birchdove Homes, felt the same, wanting to create stand-out homes in a fabulous location.
“Our role extends well beyond the normal relationship, with us providing support to the developer and contractor, Foreman (North East), during construction.”
Comprising eight, spacious, detached family homes, Coach House is set against a tree-covered hillside. There are four house types combining traditional materials like stone, brick and slate with more modern design features incorporating zinc, a high amount of glass and timber composite cladding. External design features create a varied and bespoke streetscape.
Prices at Coach House start from £450,000 and it is anticipated the show home will open towards the end of September.
It has been a busy year for Ollie, who moved into his new office premises in Corbridge at the start of 2019. His wife Rachel, a fully qualified architect, has joined him and technician Otis Reed in the growing firm.
Ollie, who set up 33 Architecture in 2015, explained: “We’ve always focussed on designing high-quality, bespoke properties – both residential and commercial. Many of these have-been one-offs but more recently we’ve started working with developers on some interesting larger residential projects.”
The firm recently completed a 14-home development for Gatsby Homes at Bedlington and hopes to handle more projects around that scale.
