A unique specialist sensory centre which provides a wonderful range of experiences for children and adults with learning disabilities is ‘running’ with cash thanks to an extremely successful 10K race.

Pendragon Multi-Sensory Centre in Northallerton provides support and rest-bite to the lives of those with physical, mental and emotional difficulties and their families.  It is the only centre of its kind in the area and families travel from as far as Selby and Hull to take advantage of its sensory facilities.

800 runners took part in the Northallerton 10K run on Sunday 28 May. Only in its second year, it managed to raise £10,000 for the centre which opened last July and is currently reliant on lottery funding.

“We are beyond delighted with the amount of money we have raised,” said David Kerfoot MBE DL, one of the Trustee’s for Pendragon.

“Such a significant amount of money gives us the breathing space to keep the sensory centre moving forward and providing even better service and facilities for our clients”.

And David’s son Thomas Kerfoot who initiated and plans the Northallerton 10K as a means of raising a sustainable income for the centre added, “I am blown away with the success of this year’s event, the feedback from the community has been superb and I believe the race is serving a purpose not only to Pendragon but also the community who love a local sporting event. Everyone is winning”.

Bookings are already open for next year’s race on the 27 May, 2018 and bookings in the first week have nearly covered a quarter of the race capacity already.
