WOMEN Only Swimming sessions are now available at a popular Middlesbrough leisure centre.

The eight-week pilot scheme is being trialled at the Neptune Centre by Middlesbrough Council in partnership with Everyone Active.

The sessions at the Ormesby Road centre are part of a wider programme of sport and physical activity delivered through Middlesbrough Active Sport, a Sport England-funded project that aims to get more people active.

Community Sport Activator Sophie Brown said: “This is something we have worked on for a long time because people tell us that this is what they would like.

“I am really pleased to finally offer these sessions to local women.”

The sessions take place on Saturdays from 3.30pm to 5pm until July 22 (except Saturday, June 17 due to a gala event).

Female lifeguards will be on hand at the sessions and children can attend if accompanied by an adult. Sessions during the pilot will cost £1.50 for adults and 50p for children.

Everyone Active Partnership Manager Paul Ayre said he hoped the sessions would prove successful: “We are committed to supporting women in Middlesbrough to swim and take part in physical activity in an environment that they feel comfortable in.

“Sessions like these have the potential to improve levels of activity, in turn improve the health and quality of life of people across Middlesbrough.”
