A Taste of Diwali at Stockton-on-Tees’ Festival of Light and Colour

STOCKTON–on–Tees’ annual Diwali-inspired Festival of Light and Colour returns to the Borough on Wednesday, 25 October.

The free, family-friendly event, which will takes place from 6 to 7.30pm, features traditional and contemporary performances, shadow play story-telling plus a lively Bhangra disco.

Meet at 6pm near Stockton Town Centre’s plinth to enjoy a spell-binding shadow performance which explains the story of the great warrior Prince Rama and his beautiful wife, Sita.

Following this, visitors will be invited to join local community groups in a lantern parade from the High Street to Dovecot Street.  Traditional Dhol drummers will create a dramatic atmosphere on the journey to ARC where guests will also be able to enjoy Hindu dancers, a Bhangra disco and Punjabi song.  Free, traditional food will be served from 7pm to 7.45pm.

The festival is organised by Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council in association with representatives from the Hindu Cultural Society.

“The festival traditionally symbolises joy, love, reflection, resolution, forgiveness, light and knowledge and represents the victory of good over evil and light over darkness. With dramatic performances using music, light and colour the event will really lift your spirits and awaken your senses.”
