A former apprentice who is now Operations Director at Chartwise, a Team Valley based transport consultancy, has returned to his original vocational training provider Access Training to take a management development programme – an apprenticeship in Leadership and Management Level 5.
Chris Allen has had a successful career in the transport sector after being with his current company for 13 years where he joined as an Analyst. He’s since risen through the ranks to become a key member of the management team, working with the Managing Director and the eight strong team to expand the company in line with the business’s ambitious growth strategy.
Chris said: “Chartwise with its transport consultancy and new driving school capability is currently enjoying dynamic growth I can partly attribute to the training and support I’ve received from undertaking the Leadership and Management Level 5 apprenticeship.
“As a senior manager in the business I looked to Access Training to provide a programme of learning that would allow me to develop as a manager at the same time as working in an extremely busy environment.
“By supporting me through the Level 5 apprenticeship Access Training and Chartwise will help me achieve a level that is equivalent to a foundation degree within two years.
“The skills I have improved and developed as a result of undertaking the course have enabled me to become more effective in my role, which in turn has benefited the business.
“I’ve become more aware of the needs of my team and therefore become more approachable and engaged with them, which I think has had a direct result already on our success.
“We recently launched an inhouse HGV driving school as an additional service we can offer our customer base which includes major logistics companies with up to 250 drivers to small owner operators requiring the necessary qualifications to drive their own heavy goods vehicles.”
Access Training offer support to managers like Chris by assigning them a Trainer who can support them throughout the course and make additional onsite visits outside of the regular management workshops that are delivered at their state-of the-art training centre on Team Valley. The course can be completed in up to two years depending on the work commitments of the individual manager.
Sue Tomlinson said: “The Management Apprenticeship programme is designed to consolidate and enhance the full range of organisational objectives that managers are often responsible for and it’s gratifying that Chris Allen has been very positive already about the effect it has had on him and Chartwise.”
Managing Director of Access Training Malcolm Armstrong said: “There are over 4 million managers in the UK and they play an integral part in supporting organisational objectives through a range of functions such as planning, allocating and monitoring the work of the team, supporting team members, project management, agreeing budgets and implementing change to name a few. As a result, I’m always delighted to get the kind of positive feedback we’ve received from Chartwise in terms of the direct impact to the business our Management Apprenticeships can have. It shows that if you enable the individual to thrive, the organisation will inevitably benefit.”
