Coastal Communities consultations encourage views of residents

Redcar_and_Cleveland_Borough_CouncilREDCAR & Cleveland Borough Council is encouraging residents of the borough to sign up to two consultation events taking place in January to have their say on improving their coastal communities.

The drop-in sessions are to help draft plans that will benefit those who live, work and visit the area.

These events follow a decision from the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) to support a number of Coastal Community Teams in order to inform and help deliver economic regeneration in coastal areas.

The council was successful in attracting funds to create a team for the Redcar-Coatham area and a second team covering the coastal area of East Cleveland.

Centrifuge Consulting has been appointed by the council to undertake consultations and assist communities to pull together “Economic Plans” for each area. Local organisations will then be offered support to establish themselves as Coastal Community Teams that may continue to create and inform future growth projects.

Cllr Dale Quigley, cabinet member for economic growth at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council said:

“We encourage all of our residents to make their voices heard and help draft a plan that will benefit the borough, its residents and visitors.

“The council values the views of local people and it is a great opportunity for residents to put their ideas and thoughts across.”

For the Redcar-Coatham community consultation, where project ideas will be collated, residents are invited to a drop in session on Wednesday, January 20th between 3pm and 7pm at Tuned In!, Majuba Road, Redcar.

For the East Cleveland community consultation, residents are invited to a similar session on Thursday, January 21st between 3pm and 7pm at Skelton Civic Hall, Coniston Road, Skelton.

There will also be an opportunity on the day to discuss how groups can become involved in ongoing project planning and to seek project funding by participating in the Coastal Community Teams initiative.

Alternatively, residents and organisations are welcome to complete the following online questionnaires: www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/Redcar-CoathamCCT and www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/EastClevelandCCT
